Elvis bought his mansion Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1957 for $100,000 (£36,000).

At age 10, Elvis placed fifth singing "Old Shep" at a children's talent show, thereby surpassing Michael Jordan, who got cut from one of his first basketball teams.

He was drafted into the US army on December 19, 1957, earning $78 a month and unable to get access to his monthly music income of $400,000.

Elvis had a pet chimpanzee called Scatter which liked to look up women’s skirts.

His favourite aftershave to impress the ladies was Brut.

In 1954, Elvis auditioned for a gospel quartet named the Songfellows.  They said no.

Elvis recorded more than 600 songs, but did not write any of them.    

The first Grammy Award Elvis is for the 1967 Gospel release, “How Great Thou Art.”

The Cleveland Browns was Elvis’ favorite football team.

Elvis' famous black hair was dyed - his natural color was brown.

He was distantly related to former U.S. Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Jimmy Carter.
